Entries are now being taken for the Victoria Trophy, the UK's largest girls and women's five-a-side football tournament. The historic competition returns to the Victoria Embankment, Nottingham for its 27th year on Sunday 12th July. Despite last year's successful event alongside Nottingham City Council's festival of women's football it has been decided that a return to the traditional summer date will make the competition bigger and better than ever attracting players and fans from across the country. This year's tournament is being sponsored by Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service who are keen to promote the range of fantastic career opportunities that exist for women ( www.stepuptonottsfire.com/women). Their involvement will allow the event to grow and 2009 will see competitions in each junior age group from U10 through to U16 as well as the open age competition. There will also be a new Corporate Cup for businesses who have a passion for women's football. As is always the case with the Victoria Trophy it is about more than just football and once again there will be a range of additional entertainment and activities on offer. For those teams who are interested in an overnight stay we are working with a new sports tour operator this year. Team link ( www.teamlink.co.uk) will be able to help with any accommodation or package needs that you may have.
